We Honor Family and Its Diversity…
Welcome to Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays of North Jersey, a group of people who meet regularly in the Montclair area and are dedicated to providing support, education, and advocacy to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people, their families and their friends. We hope this site will help you find the information you need and build better lines of communication between PFLAG and the community.
PFLAG was founded in 1981 by 25 parents concerned with society’s attitude toward their gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered children. Today, PFLAG represents more than 65,000 families and friends in the United States and speaks for the thousands of others who cannot.
Our Mission:
Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons and their families through:
- Support – to cope with an adverse society,
- Education – to enlighten an ill-informed public; and
- Advocacy – to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights.
PFLAG provides the opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.
Anyone with concerns about gay family members or friends, and any lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered people with concerns about coming out (or other issues) will find a welcoming and confidential setting for discussion and for sharing insights with others who have been through similar situations.
PFLAG North Jersey publishes a monthly newsletter, PFLAG Waver, for members and subscribers, provides topical speakers and discussions at meetings and staffs a telephone helpline, (908-300-4227) to provide information about and referral to relevant community services. PFLAG North Jersey is part of the International Parents’ FLAG Federation, Visit the PFLAG National website for more information. PFLAG has chapters in fifty states and many foreign countries, all working for civil rights for gay people and for true family values for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendered people and their loved ones.
We hope you will find this site useful. Thank you for visiting with us!
